Thanksgiving and Gift Day Focus 2010

Opportunity to give thanks together :

Each year at All Souls we set aside a whole Sunday in June to thank God together as a Christian family - for His faithfulness both in the big picture of his worldwide church and for His sustaining of the church here in London.

Supporting the ongoing ministry today :

On Thanksgiving and Gift Day this year (June 27th 2010), we focused on  three specific practical areas which need support currently to enable the ongoing ministry here in central London.

  • Counselling - This vital and sensitive work needs to be carried out in a professional and confidential space.  We want to create suitable counselling rooms for this work in St Paul's Robert Adam Street.  (It's expected that the counselling office plans would repay the investment in the intervening years financially and in ministry value.)
  • St Paul's Robert Adam Street - All sorts of other ministry work goes on at SPRAS - from Jelly Beans to special events, from youth ministry to Church family time like families lunches.  Whatever developments happen in the building in the longer term we'll need to keep a sound roof over our heads.  The five yearly survey shows that significant work is needed on the roof to prevent further deterioration.
  • Church House - In the All Souls building itself our maintenance requirements are particularly in church house where a host of individuals work to keep the ministries going.  We want to ensure that the buildings are kept in a safe condition and are good to work in.

A generous response :

It's sometimes hard to see the upkeep of buildings as exciting - and we're aware of the situations facing many churches around the world who have so little.  But to enable the gospel work to grow and build and to preserve what we have for those who take up the work after us, we need to be generous in our giving to these aspects of the work.  And to celebrate, with thanks, what God has called us to be part of.
