Why ASVA?

Through various events we encourage people to seek a Christian worldview, which transforms and challenges our attitude towards the culture and the world we live in. ASVA also has links with The Arts Centre Group (www.artscentregroup.org).

Who can come?

All Souls Visual Arts is not only for visual artists, designers, art students and other art related professionals, but it is also for anyone who is interested in developing their understanding of art and culture in the light of Scripture.

'Rembrandt: an artist living in sin' by Nigel Halliday

Rembrandt was an artist who knew the extremes of success and failure, happiness and distress, in the midst of his faith in God.  He was also publicly compelled to come face to face with the reality and consequences of his own sinfulness.  The lecture looked at how he uses his painting to explore universal themes such as facing up to your own failings and understanding the forgiveness and grace of God.

Dr Nigel Halliday lectures and writes on a range of modern and contemporary art topics. He studied at the Courtauld Institute of Art, and is the author of the history of Zwemmer's art bookshop and gallery.
