Helen Willcox

Helen joined the staff of All Souls as Associate Minister for Pastoral Counselling in July 2007.  She went to College in London in 1968 to train as a speech and language therapist, just around the corner in Portland Place.

Although brought up to believe in God, she didn't become a Christian until 1970 through a process that led her to understand that Jesus was not just a name but a person - the risen Son of God.

After working as a speech therapist in Nottingham, Southampton and London, Helen joined the staff of St Helen's Bishopsgate and lead Bible study groups, helped others to follow Christ and worked with students and City workers, under the leadership of the then curate, Hugh Palmer.

"Feeling rather cut off from the world outside the church," in 1989, Helen returned to Speech Therapy, and ended up as a General Manager of community hospitals in South West Surrey.

Then in 1994, Helen joined UCCF as the London Team Leader.  It was during this time that she remet Robert, who she married in 2002 - and at the same time rejoined the staff team (part-time) at St Helen's, this time being more involved on the pastoral side.   "I realised how complicated some of the issues were that Christians faced and how limited the resources were for helping them."  This led her to train as a counsellor, doing a secular training at Spurgeon's College.  "I am looking forward to using this training within the context of All Souls and helping individuals be more of the people God means them to be despite some of the damaging experiences that people face."

Robert and Helen live in Dulwich. Robert has three grown-up children, and they have a 3 year old Welsh Springer Spaniel called Baggins.  Helen also works as a counsellor in a GP surgery and enjoys playing golf in any spare moment!
