Who's who

Roger Salisbury joined the staff of All Souls as a Senior Associate Minister in September 2006.  He grew up in Sussex and Islington, attending school locally and then at Monkton Combe near Bath.  As a member of a Christian family Jesus Christ was real to him from an early age, but looking back he is grateful to have been challenged outside his home to make sure the Christian faith was his own.

On leaving school he spent a year working in nearby John Lewis and as a member of All Souls before studying theology and training for ordination in Bristol and London. Shortly after beginning a curacy in Harold Wood, Essex, he married Hilda who had left Dublin to work as a secretary in a theological college in England.  They now have three children, Jonathan, Bradley and Kate, and five young grandchildren.

In his twenties Roger led a number of school missions before concentrating on building up his first church as Vicar, St. Paul’s, Dorking.  Moving to Manchester he became Rector of Holy Trinity, Platt, an inner city parish with a significant proportion of university students and staff among the congregation.  Retaining his commitment to ‘City’, and occasional forays on the tennis court and golf course, he went south again to work as Team Rector of Chesham in Bucks, with its mixture of town and rural churches. His term as Area Dean of Amersham enabled him to support other local churches, especially their clergy and churchwardens.

Roger has taken various opportunities to serve the wider church alongside his main responsibilities. These have included post ordination training for new clergy and chairing ‘selection’ conferences for the Ministry Division of the Church of England. Recently he has been appointed Hon. Secretary of The Church Patronage Trust, strategically involved in the appointment of clergy to parishes across the country as vacancies arise.      

Coming in from the country to the great metropolis, Roger and Hilda are keen to enjoy having concerts, theatres and galleries right on their doorstep.
